About Steve

A Little Background…
I spent my share of time during high school and college working as a janitor, paint contractor, print shop manager and graveyard-shift grocery worker to get the income I needed to survive. After a few twelve-hour days painting a house in the unforgiving New Mexican sunshine and heat, my dad said, “You know… God gave you a brain so you wouldn’t have to sweat so much!”
I enjoy physical labor, but many physically-demanding jobs don’t pay enough to support a family these days. I realized I would have to acquire skills that people were willing to pay more for so that I could achieve my goals in life.
I decided to finish college and get some degrees.
In addition to heavy course loads, I carried multiple part-time jobs during my undergraduate and graduate studies. After finishing a Master’s degree and relocating to job-market-favorable Denver, Colorado, I was unemployed for four months. I tried to overcome all the frustration and uncertainty of unemployment by researching and mastering the principles of effective job hunting, resumes, interviewing, and networking.
Eventually, I landed a job creating print and computer-based training programs for over 15,000 customer service reps and installation technicians.
I have since worked as an instructional designer creating the sales, customer service and product knowledge training programs for a large national retailer. I started my own company that creates instructional media and marketing material for businesses of all sizes across many industries. In a nutshell, I’ve built my career creating the tools and programs people use to do their jobs better and make companies more money.
I’ve combined my experience from designing corporate training programs, from my own career development, and from running my own business to create this online resource for you.
The work we do influences how we feel about ourselves (perhaps too much). It helps us understand our part and importance in society. The compensation we receive for that work comes not only in the form of money, but in terms of recognition and respect as well. I hope this site and resources will help you get better work and income for all of those reasons.
